The Launch Pad
Debajehmujig Creation Residency – Career Launch Program
One of the most difficult challenges at the beginning of an artistic career can be, access to the tools and resources that will really showcase the artist’s message to the world, in its most accessible and innovative form. The Launch Pad provides a vehicle for newly established artists interested in exploring their artistic intent through a variety of artistic mediums, utilizing the environment as a key resource in creation.
The Launch Pad
The Residency Internship program is for established artists, early in their career. The residency can have a single discipline focus, in visual, performance, media or audio arts, with fusion and collaborative elements that will dovetail with The Four Directions Creation Process, and assist in the articulation of Debajehmujig’s evolving practice.
The Residency Intern works collaboratively with the Artistic and technical teams to enhance the professional creation activities of the organization by engaging in an investigation or exploration, that culminates in per formative public dissemination. Launch Pad Residencies utilize the Public events at The Creation Centre and associated partners, to showcase their work and evolve their practice. The Intern is mentored by staff artists and animators and supported to access and utilize the facility and its equipment.
A Residency Intern can come from a multi art or single discipline background, with a newly established body of work that has emerged from community based experience or work following the completion of post secondary education in the arts. The Residency period will be determined by the focus of activity for the Creation Centre at a given period of time.
Internship Residency placements are 6 to 8 weeks in duration and can be centred around a specific specialized mentorship with a visiting professional with a National or International body of work, or a public dissemination event such as The Six Foot Festival.
Mentors for the program are primarily the core team of artists and animators at Debajehmujig. Each is a practicing professional with an art practice that is substantially housed at The Creation Centre, has community based roots and wings as well as developing international relations in artistic creation and performance.
In addition to the faculty of staff, the Launch Pad is also resourced by National and International Artistic Associations through ICAF, The World Wide Virtual Theatre Carousel and other developing relationships in Europe, Latin America and Africa.
